At Growler USA, beer enthusiasts, diners and employees alike are treated to a full-bodied experience that is “True to the Brew.”

The microbrew pub is situated on the bustling Kapahulu Avenue just a few blocks from Waikiki Beach, and in addition to serving up an expansive collection of American-made craft beers and ciders, Growler USA also offers wine, coffee, hand-crafted beverages and delicious food, from pupus to entrees.

“We strive to serve the highest quality craft beer and good food in a friendly, family-oriented environment that is clean and safe,” said Bill Muneno, owner of Growler USA in Hawaii. “We are not beer snobs. We just love beer and love sharing our knowledge with our customers and getting some in return as well.”

Growler USA was launched in Eugene, Oregon, with a concept that expanded upon a typical fill-and-go station for growlers — vessels used to transport beer. The hallmark of craft beer is the ability to take traditional styles of beer and innovate them with unique twists and flavors, and Growler USA takes the microbrew to the next level by pairing nearly 90 choices on tap with a full menu of flavorful options.

While this process may seem daunting for most guests, fear not as all Growler USA servers and “beertenders” are Cicerone-certified beer servers. Much like wine sommeliers, the employees are uniquely qualified to make personalized recommendations to help guide guests in enjoying multiple microbrew varieties. The team at Growler USA makes it a point to welcome customers to be part of the ohana, and enjoy the personalized craft beer experience.

“Nearly 40 percent of our 87 beer taps are made by Hawaii-based brewers,” Muneno said. “We have one of the largest selections of Hawaii beers on tap in the state. Our pub is located just outside of Waikiki, making it a good spot for locals and tourists alike.”

Some of the popular local beer choices available at Growler USA include: Kona Longboard Lager, Maui Brewing Co. Bikini Blonde Lager, Mehana Humpback Lager, Maui Pineapple Mana Wheat and Waikiki Hana Hou Hefe. From pilsners and pale lagers to wheat beers and pale ales, Growler USA has something for everyone — including beer connoisseurs and the casual drinker.

Growler USA is open daily Monday to Thursday, noon-10 p.m.; Friday to Saturday, 11 a.m.-midnight; and Sunday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m.; and also offers superb happy hour specials from 3 to 6:30 p.m. on weekdays.

Some of the pub’s popular food selections include: Oven-Roasted Chicken Wings with a choice of savory sauces that pairs with an amber/red ale; Maui Wowie Bay Shrimp Salad that matches nicely with American wheat ale; and Wasabi Mahi Mahi Burger, which is best enjoyed with a classic pilsner brew.

“Craft beer is still growing in Hawaii, and it’s a lot of fun learning about the styles and flavors available with our vendors and customers alike,” Muneno said. “I feel we have a great staff in place that knows how to work hard and have some fun as well.”
