As the world’s largest salon brand with more than 4,100 locations throughout the U.S. and Canada, Great Clips upholds its superb reputation with more than just fashionable haircuts. The company’s goals are clear the moment visitors walk through the door, presenting the latest trends, exceptional customer service and tech-forward convenience.

Bringing these features closer to home for Hawaii residents is owner Toni Cook, who opened Great Clips on Oahu in July 2014. Breaking ground at Kapolei Village Center, the salon franchise has since grown by opening four more shops across the island, including its most recent in Kailua — which happens to be Cook’s hometown.

“The company is known for affordable haircuts for men, women and children in a family-friendly environment. Great Clips strives for continuous innovation in order to be the industry leader and also give back by doing good things in the community,” explained Cook. “We are a fast-pace salon offering haircuts, shampoos and styling.”

Customers rely on Great Clips for these excellent hair services, but that’s not all. The company created an app for patrons that allow them to check-in ahead of time and add their name to the waitlist long before arriving at the salon of choice.

“(The app) is used by more than 40 percent of customers in Hawaii. The Kapolei Great Clips had the highest online check-in for the entire system for 2018,” said Cook.

Furthermore, she elaborated on another feature called Clip Notes. It allows the business to provide consistent customer service by keeping a record of the preferred haircut so Great Clips knows just what guests want every time.

With such superior services to customers, there’s no doubt that employees receive a myriad of great opportunities working at Great Clips, also.

“Our team is encouraged to work hard, have fun, support and celebrate each other’s success, and build friendships as well as careers,” described Cook. “Our stylists are motivated, talented and excited to make people look and feel their greatest.”

In addition to creating a comfortable and lively work environment, Cook mentioned that all of their stylists are highly efficient, holding Hawaii state barber, hairdresser or cosmetologist licenses. And, continuing the learning process, Great Clips offers a new-hire, two-part skills training course, a salon brand concept training class as well as ongoing trend training.

There’s certainly a lot to gain and share by joining the Great Clips team, and Cook agrees. “I have worked in countless roles in the hair industry proudly for more than 30 years in Hawaii,” she said. “Great Clips has been an amazing opportunity and I am grateful for the chance to bring something new and fresh to the islands.

“Each location operates with a management team and as we prepare for growth we continue to have great career opportunities.”

The various possibilities don’t stop at the employees, however. Cook shared that an important part of Great Clips beliefs and values tie back to the public. “We are always finding a way to help shine a spotlight on a cause or help the community. We have involvement in our local communities and donate hair to Locks of Love to provide cancer patients with wigs,” she said.

Other ways the company helps to give back include the Clips of Kindness program that provides free clipper cuts to those undergoing cancer treatments. Most recently, Great Clips Hawaii participated in its sixth annual Veterans Day campaign that shows their appreciation by giving free haircuts to all active duty and retired military persons.

With a soft heart and a steady hand, the employees of Great Clips are ready to serve everyone from customers to the community. “We are always on the lookout for great talent,” concluded Cook. “And it’s a privilege to have the chance to work with such a dedicated and talented staff every day.”
