In addition to being the place where you can have your beloved canine family member skillfully primped, Petco equally “grooms” its workers to ensure their future career success.

For example, Petco’s employees, who are called “partners,” play a significant role in helping pets and their pet parents enjoy fulfilling lives together. There are opportunities for growth and training for partners at all levels in Petco stores. From leadership training programs to web-based learning systems that deliver training to partners across the organization, there are many opportunities for them to build their knowledge and skills.

Everything Petco does is guided by the company’s vision, which is “Healthier pets. Happier people. Better world.” Every day, in the company’s stores, the staff members deliver the highest level of customer service and expertise, as well as the products, services and experiences that keep pets physically fit, mentally alert, socially engaged and emotionally happy.

Sean Hartigan, store leader (manager) for Petco Honolulu on South Beretania Street, explained that he helped open that store location in 2012. Since then, he’s trained new store leaders for Petco’s Ewa Beach, Hawaii Kai and Kaneohe locations before recently returning to Honolulu.

Hartigan shared that he absolutely loves working for Petco. “The first thing that gets me up every morning is that I know I’m going to help not just one person, but multiple people, take better care of their pet,” Hartigan said.

He also appreciates the ongoing, extensive training programs available to partners at Petco. “There is a lot of upward mobility. If you have the drive and desire, there is plenty of opportunity,” he added.

In fact, he pointed out that Chris Leideritz, the Petco regional vice president of operations, originally started off as a cashier/sales associate at the company.

Petco’s culture is friendly, outgoing and collaborative. When it comes to workers, the company values people who have a real passion for both pets and pet parents. The values that define the company are teamwork, a customer-first focus, unwavering commitment to doing what is right for pets, and a forward-thinking mindset.

In fact, Petco officials emphasized that the company believes in “unleashing” the strengths of all its partners by leveraging their rich diversity of talent, backgrounds, experiences and ideas.

Maria Vanegas, the district leader for Petco, said that the entry-level pay for everyone is $12 an hour. “Our focus is to make sure all our partners get the proper training so they can help every pet,” she added. “If you are interested in making a career with Petco, we will train you.”

There are 11 Petco locations in the state: seven on Oahu, two on the Big Island, one on Maui and one on Kauai. Vanegas said that all locations are hiring for multiple positions.

Petco serves pet parents in communities in more than 1,500 Petco locations across the U.S., Mexico and Puerto Rico. Petco has every pet parent covered with a wide assortment of product offerings like toys, treats and food, as well as a variety of pet services offerings like grooming, veterinary care and dog training and more.

Petco has been part of pets and pet parents’ lives since 1965 when founder Water Evans opened a mail-order veterinary supplies business in La Mesa, California in San Diego County.

Petco officials said that over the last 50-plus years, Petco has become the trusted source for high-quality, premium pet products and services nationwide. The company is focused on delivering outstanding customer service, a fun and convenient shopping environment, and a range of products, services and knowledgeable store partners to help customers be great pet parents.

What’s more, the Petco Foundation, an independent nonprofit organization, has served as a voice for companion animals across the country since 1999. Today, the Petco Foundation has invested more than $200 million in lifesaving animal welfare work to help give every animal the chance to live its best life. Petco stores work closely with Petco Foundation and animal welfare organizations to increase pet adoptions. So far, Petco has helped more than 5.5 million pets find loving families.
